Human civilization is facing two kinds of crisis namely ecological crisis and social injustice. These intermingled crisis has been a serious burden to human communities both at global and local scales. Many people in the field of community development believe that community development offers a promising approach to deal with those problems. We have seen governments and political parties only interested in how to be and to stay in power. In fact, they dance while we are suffering from the crisis. Since changing governments is not always easy, so let's just join hands and empower communities in the world. If you care to your community, your community will take care of you.
As I realize that we are likely to have different points of view as a result of our different places and cultures of origin, I would like you to please observe the principles of community development described by Professor Jim Ife of Curtin University, Australia as follows: 1) Holism, 2) Sustainability, 3) Diversity, 4) Organic development, 5) Balanced development, 6) Addressing structural disadvantage, 7) Addressing discourses of disadvantage, 8) Empowerment, 9) Need definition, 10) Human rights, 11) Valuing local knowledge, 12) Valuing local culture, 13) Valuing local resources, 14) Valuing local skills, 15) Valuing local processes, 16) Process, outcome and vision, 17) Integrity of process, 18) Consciousness raising, 19) Participation, 20) Cooperation and consensus, 21) The pace of development, 22) Peace and non-violence, 23) Inclusiveness, 24) Community building, 25) Linking the global and the local, and 26) Anti-colonialist practice (Ife 2002). Please join and share your things with us!

- I am a 54 years old Indonesian man. I have been working in the fields of community development and conservation management. I am dreaming about the world without poverty and hunger. I just cannot accept that at this time nearly 1 billion people in the world are in the state of hunger. This is the biggest shame on all of us. Why can't we just provide them with free basic food?
